Which is why this is a stupid promotion on the part of AA. It simply awards extra miles on segments that were going to be flown anyway. If I had to fly somewhere on AA, of course I'd pocket the extra 500 miles. But this does nothing to motivate me to book AA. I won't book a single incremental trip because of this and I doubt anyone will.
