What are the crowds like? the events? is it worth it to stay at the host hotel?
And, in my experience, Whistler can be hot, and cold at the same time, there's a mile in elevation from the base to the peak, so it can be raining at the base, foggy mid mountain and snowing at the top
I have only been to the gay ski week at Whistler and can relate my experiences of going 3 years in a row. Bear in mind that I have not been there in the past 2 years so things may have changed. If you are planning on going, best to book early and actually sign up for the events as they fill fast. I could not attend some events as there was no more room left and I booked a month in advance. The people are friendly, the mountains are fantastic (although I prefer Whistler to Blackcomb). It doesn't really matter where you stay as long as you are in the vicinity of the village. If you are planning on just being there during the "gay week" without participating in the events you may be disappointed as the mountains are so vast and there are so many tourists at that time of year, that it will not even seem like there is a gay ski week going on. There are of course general get togethers at some of the bars for the gay visitors , in addition to the big closing ball.
All in all, I would say it is worth going to. If you have the time, try to spend at least a couple of days in Vancouver also. There are some pre-ski events in the city prior to the ski week.
