Yes - will need a separate itin USA-UK. This is company paid - the alternative for the company is 2 x DCIR22 (BNE-LAS-BNE and BNE-SAT-BNE), so should be cheaper to include a J USA-UK fare in addition to the RTW instead.

Hi David - appreciate the thoughtful reply. I will only be transiting Asia to get back to Australia - LHR-BNE with no stops in Asia, eg QF10/52 - but I think you're right, that will be a DONE4. I notice one of the alternatives on your "suggested" route was DIV-ORC(E)...had a good long laugh at that one! My wife and kids will be doing a Y award BNE-LHR return, so I'll join them in LHR.
Are you going to originate the ticket in BNE, anywhere else SWP, do you want to nip over to PER for the status points before going off to AKL (remember the AKL service from ADL is just over the 2000, oops BA mileage limit, sorry)?
BNE origin, happy to MR to get to AKL, where I'll stop for an appointment. I wonder if BNE-ADL-PER-SYD/MEL-AKL is legal (BNE-ADL 1006 miles)?
How about going through asia both ways, with one being a direct transit on the route exception clause for Europe to SWP and vice versa.
Too long in a thin metal tube - and I still need to end up in LAS straight after AKL. I will have a think about BNE-AKL-HKG-LAX/SFO-LAS - so would definitely need a DONE4 in this case. (Note to self - make sure the CX flights are booked using AA codeshares where possible)
SEA to LON will tip the 5000 miles. Can you split the order of NYC and SEA to route into London that way? Go direct on from London to MAN/GLA to avoid the two stopovers in LON.
Happy to split the NYC and SEA order. Could maybe do SEA-SFO-BOS for the magic 2704 mile D->A?

The main strictures are that I have to go to, and stop at: AKL, LAS, SEA, NYC (can stop <24hrs), LHR or MAN or BHX. Anything else that can be added in between would be fine and fun!
