I have to PAY for status match???!!

I'm 1K MM on UA, MM on AC, and now am starting a project in CLT which is an AA hub. Is AA the only airline that actually CHARGES for a legit status match??! Crazy... no thanks... I guess you don't want my business. I'll fly UA from YVR to CLT unless somebody can explain why on earth it's seriously worth paying for this status match?
