It's not unheard of for cashiers at counter service restaurants to tap for customers (in fact, that happened once recently before the lockdowns happened). That said, that doesn't seem to be commonly happening yet, probably because many are still assuming that cards don't support contactless and/or want to ensure tipping is still an option (due to tip adjust technically being forbidden with contactless on MC).
