SW Travel Funds - transfer to other name?
Hey all. Was hoping someone had experience with this to let me know if it was worth pursuing or if I would just be wasting my breath.
I'm asking on behalf of my mother who had booked a ticket for my nephew, who is a minor (14), to travel from STL to FLL mid March 2019 for her to take him to Disney.
Well, ofc Disney ended up closing down so my mother had to cancel the ticket. While she does have a rapid rewards #, I don't believe she provided that during her booking.
She simply put his information in as if he was the passenger. She only provided her e-mail address and and credit card info.
When the ticket was cancelled, they refunded about $550 to her card, but apparently refused to refund the full amount and issued the remaining $350 as "Travel Funds."
We see that these "Travel Funds" can only be used for my nephew. It appears they have extended the travel fund window because of COVID and these funds will not expire until September 7, 2022.
However, it is likely that he won't be traveling before then especially since my mother will no longer be able to take him on this trip to Disney (perhaps ever as she no longer will live in FL).
While I realize that SW isn't responsible for Disney closing, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that they would not refund the full fare because she had to cancel the trip due to national COVID related issues.
My main point in writing here is to ask if you all think we would have any luck pursuing this with SW to get them to credit the full amount, or at least allow my mother to use the funds for herself or if this is a lost cause and I shouldn't waste time.
On a related note, I question how they can allow someone older than 11 (but under 18) to book a ticket without any parental consent. If my child were to book a ticket for themselves and use my card without my permission and then we would cancel the ticket those funds would still be locked in their name?? How can SW allow a minor to be booked without consent? I realize this isn't the actual case with us, but the salient facts would remain the same and so I am interested in how this would be handled.
thanks.
