I agree. But it doesn't sound like torture to me if I could spend all of my time in one of two places: a Wailea condo or outside (that's the draw for Maui). In all of my times in Maui, I can't recall being in a crowded outside anywhere. It would be very easy to stay far away from everyone else, and I'd be fine with grocery and restaurant delivery.
