So you are effectively paying for one additional month of rent...Whilst I doubt there's any insurance that could cover this, it seems reasonable in the grand scheme of things. Your plan to leave to Canada and come back won't work in the reverse direction (I believe) until the border has opened back up, allowing you into the US from Canada (unless there is an exception for students starting their course).
