Hotel Key Card Systems in 2020
Starting a thread that’s an update for 2020. The original was from 2005 and closed last month.
Now that we’ve gone to tap key cards in almost all hotels, or mobile phone keys...has the technology changed in terms of what information is stored on the cards, where the logs are kept, etc.?
Also, since occupancy is so low these days, and the next key that “overwrites” the last key is likely to take weeks or even months to occur, does that leave any information vulnerable on the locks?
Do they still pull key logs from the lock itself, or is it now all “in the cloud?”
Anyone know how long those logs are stored before they fall off? Is it time or number of entries?
