Pre-vaccine, the *A partners will work together to avoid mutually assured destruction. I can see:
1. SIN: Split with SQ on west coast (split = SQ or UA running 1 flight/day)
2. HKG: SQ exiting HKG, UA 1/day to HKG
3. DEL: UA probably ceding to AI from west coast. Split from east coast
4. FRA: UA probably ceding to LH from west coast. Split from east coast
5. TPE: Split with Eva on west coast
6. ICN: Split with Asiana on west coast
7. JNB: Switching EWR-CPT to EWR-JNB if South African goes under
So not only is the partner chart pulled, but many competing flights will disappear in the short term, meaning expensive mileage tickets.
UA lacks antitrust authority with SQ, AI, BR, and SA, making any such concerted action illegal. Also, pre-COVID, UA garnered significantly higher yields on USA-SIN flying than SQ, so what would be the point of ceding the traffic to the weaker contestant?
