It seems like you won't be able to reprice using historical fares based on my interpretation of that block. At most you would be able to reprice the return segments once HKG-LAX is flown, although I'm not sure if AA treats Canada as INTL.

Indeed, after putting the booking on hold on AA.com, I called and attempted to add a stopover in HKG and it blew up the thru fare, no dice. At least we have an 18-hour overnighter on the way back, so we can enjoy the city a bit.

I also attempted to apply value of a canceled AA ticket to payment, not possible due to CX segments in the booking (despite all AA flight numbers).
