DenverBrian, the same could be said of home-entertainment such as stereos/ HI-Fi's, record players, and boomboxes of old! It's a double-edged sword. Then as now, one could control the crowd, the cost, the music, etc. by partying at home. But few of us can get enough friends to come to our places for a party all at the same time. Going out offers the chance to meet new people who are not "busy"/ don't "have other plans" that night! Of course, there are always overpriced drinks and the risk of somebody picking a fight because you asked his date to dance and strangers acting like you're bothering them by talking to them!
