Everyone who was frequenting those finally qualified for AARP and started to need earlier and earlier bedtimes, hip replacements, time with the grandkids, and so on.
I associate those with Boomer culture, and they seem to me now like an attempt to capitalize on and drag out the Disco party era as long as possible. I was born in the first few years of the Gen-X era, and at least in my circles, "Partying at the hotel bar" was a punch line, not something we'd actually consider doing.
