I've never seen hand luggage checked at the gate by AF (doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but as a FF, never saw it). Sometimes if the flight is full, they may ask for people to voluntarily put their bag in the hold, but that's about it. So unless your carry-on is clearly over the expected size, you'll be fine.

The main issue I ever faced was from CDG security staff (Securitas? G4S?) weighting your luggage before custom (especially at T2E) and sending you back if it exceeds (I think) 12 kg. That usually applies only if you go through regular queue though, not the SkyPriority one, that queue being hidden behind.
