Postpone is something we could expect. GE9X, cargo door, MAX issue etc., all factors are affecting 777-x project (On Boeing side).
On the airline side, LH had converted their order to 6 firmed commitment & 14 options, EY will only be accepting 6 of its 25 orders.
IF Cathay tries to negotiate with Boeing again, I think they might get a great price and a delayed date for delivery.

Regional plane, 78X will be an option but the poor quality, human resources will be a huge problem for CX. The smart move will be to switch to 330Neo or 359 Regional since they're operating 359/330 and they don't have to add new resources for that.
CX don't needs postpone, just let it go. Boeing seems cannot delivery 777X on time.

For regional fleet upgrade, I thinks CX just postpone it until they can see end of the tunnel
