If the airline is willing to refund directly, that would be quicker in getting your money refunded than a chargeback.
I would say your experience in airlines taking over reservations is unusual, in terms of IB, and almost unprecedented for BA, so I'm not sure this is relevant advice for BA. Chargeback and Section 75 will be faster than airline refunds at the moment, by quite some margin, however I do agree it's best to work with airlines at least to begin with since that is part of the Chargeback and Section 75 processes. In the case of BA they are refunding direct bookings within a reasonable timeframe, this is more about the OTAs' approach to cashflow than anything else.
