Originally, social distancing measures were sold to the public -- in Hong Kong and elsewhere -- as short-term measures intended to flatten the infection curve to avoid a flood of patients that would overwhelm available medical resources.
But the narrative seems to have shifted, with the goal now not to keep the numbers low, but to eradicate completely the virus. And it's been a shift that's taken place very quietly.
I suspect we'll see further extensions of social distancing measures beyond May 7, though that is coincidentally about the same time border restrictions with the Mainland are set to expire.
My own thought, for anyone thinking of heading out of Hong Kong, is that return without restrictions won't be on the cards till September, at least from Europe or N America.
