I visited the upper deck before I flew sitting there when I was on a flight to LAX. The "new" film of the day was a Bond film and the system would not play it. As a VTR engineer I said I could probably fix it, but the cabin crew weren't really that bothered until a lady with several rings on her sleeve came back and asked if I would "as a gentleman in Fist Class" is complaining. I took them from the rack and opened them up - it was clear that their heads had never been cleaned as they were full of soot and the scanners were black. I asked for some cloth table cloths and vodka - "ice and lemon?" was the giggled question. It took about 15 minutes per machine and I my hands were totally black but it all worked and the film ran at great quality. I washed up and went down the spiral stairs where the guy from First - David Crosby - thanked me personally. The cabin crew moved me to Club and I got upgraded for about 3 years. Now it's all disks and I can't carry tools. Oh well.
