"Does this mean the additional leg (for exmaple, LHR to Paris) does not count against the 10k? Or you were just trying to say that virtually all these destinations fit inside 10k? "

Starting from New York, many European destinations will fit into the 10K. LHR-JFK is 3452 each way = total of 6904 miles. This leaves over 3000 miles left to use within the award. Moscow however sems to be 3120 miles so may be just outside the maximum allowed distance starting from JFK though QF mile calculations can be different to what milemarker says and it only has to be out by 12 for it to be a valid journey.

(Background: I want to fly from Moscow to Toronto return using the concorde (via NY).

"Does the above mean that if Moscow->LHR->NY fits in 10k, that I still get a connection in the US (and hopefully in Toronto) as part of the award?)"

Adding Toronto will definately exceed the maximum mileage. I would suggest getting a separate award from JFK-YYZ, which would be 20,000 miles economy class / 40,000 1st class on AA through Qantas, total miles required being 145,000/165,000

I'd start by phoning QF and asking how many miles they count SVO-LHR-JFK as being. If 5000 or less, ya laughing
