it has to be revenue management. everything delta does is about revenue. What other explanation could their by? Is the advanced searching slowing down their crappy software infrastructure?
The UI folks probably didn't like it because it added too much additional clutter. All we are talking about here is the old advanced search web form (it wasn't truly an "expert" mode). The only difference between the old and new advanced search is the ability to specify a particular fare class. That's it. Good luck using Expedia (or other OTA's) as they don't let you search by fare class either. AA doesn't appear to have a mechanism either. AS doesn't even seem to let you specify the cabin. UA looks to be the only airline that let's you do this in their fare search.
