The new search still has flexible date search option, the ability to search for nearby airports, and shows lowest available fares. How does removing the ability to search for higher fare classes than the lowest available reduce revenue? I'm afraid your theory doesn't really add up. Seems more likely that most people simply didn't use search by fare class feature or found it confusing. Or maybe when they went to the large fonts on new search form they simply couldn't fit the list of fare classes on the page (such as mobile devices).
