it's basically a publicity stunt by the government....they have ordered airlines to refund for all bookings made after march 25th for travel up till may 3rd....so basically airlines have to offer refunds to those passengers who made bookings while the country was in lockdown to travel within the lockdown period....
airlines suspended all ticket sales until april 15th when the lockdown went into effect....so they may have sold some tickets for travel in the second half of april but the numbers were so low that this direction by the government won't really help....
a client of mine runs one of the largest travel agencies in inida....i spoke to him yesterday after the government gave this direction....he told me bookings from 15th april - 15th may were down 97% from last year....
Ah shoot. I booked a long time ago for travel during the lockdown period. Absolutely consumer unfriendly. Took an L on this one but will be very wary the next time.
