As with a lot of things AA you just need to call.

When you call, you can change to new dates in December for no fee. You will not get a credit if the new flights are now cheaper.

If the new December flights are cheaper, and there has been a schedule change since you booked it (likely), then you can ask to just cancel for a full refund, then rebook whatever you want.
