I was thinking to give a call few days before the trip and asking if they would like to put me on bud-ams earlier flight to make sure I make the connection. I am more counting on generosity on the airlines as I know about outbound segment discussed in this thread.

So far scanning delta app from time to time, but nothing pops up as I am not from those lucky ones able to modify
Yes, of course they are going to put you on AMS-YVR if you misconnect. Then they won’t have to worry about paying you EC261.

There is zero chance of them putting you on an earlier BUD-AMS flight for free, unless you have an involuntary change to the itinerary that qualifies for a free change. That is the first flight of the ticket, and as you already see in the app, it reprices; no agent can or should override this.

And, they have no incentive to do so. They would save your seat on the second flight and avoid paying you EC261 by putting you on the nonstop out of AMS.

Changing the rules would be legally iffy one would think, whereas we’ve already (many pages ago) had reference to the rules allowing them to declare an error fare and refund it.

The effect is the same, and the caution well heeded.
Either way - those who are somehow getting away with free changes, or even refunds - Delta would certainly be within their rights to charge these folks the actual fare difference (and blame the reissue online on an error), or revert back to how they were originally ticketed, or cancel for a full refund.

Again, note, if there is an involuntary schedule change - the airline doesn’t have to transport you. They can simply opt to cancel and provide a full refund, which ends their contractual obligations.

Delta is losing $60M a day right now. Soon enough, the person who is on a below cost, premium fare, calling 6 times a day to try to evade the fare rules, is going to be told enough is enough, here is your refund and safe travels on other airlines.

I appreciate Delta’s generosity here - they are the only reason this is being honored - if it was up to AF or KL, no chance - but I am shocked how much people are still trying to milk them. Especially when who knows if many of these flights will remain on the schedule or not. It just makes it less likely for DL to honor these in the future, for those of us who appreciate a good deal and acknowledge being bound by the fare rules...
