UA does not blink if I want to book this as an award, so I do not understand what US's issue is.

Currently, looking at DFW-ORD-LHR(stopover)-VIE(final destination)-IAD-DFW, but am assuming that I will be told the same thing by US.
Routings and rules of this sort are determined by each member carrier, not *A as a whole, so you'd be better off asking that question in the US forum.
