Well, it’s certainly better than a conversation in a bar. While it’s not E2E encrypted just between parties (The content does run over zooms infrastructure), at a minimum the video contact and computer audio content is encrypted at least as well as any https web browsing session would be. (Like your bank or favorite airline website) It’s not E2E with both party endpoints being the only ones that can encrypted, share and decrypt the content - like say Apple iMessage, but this content is not out in the open for anyone to eavesdrop on or snoop on like an open WiFi session. And even IF captured people aren’t going to be able to de-crypt it quickly or easily.
Routing audio over the regular phone system does become more problematic, but that is true of any phone call that isn’t truly encrypted E2E and trunks out of in over the regular POTS network at any stage.
The hijacking of zoom meetings is really a combination of both user error, bad communication from the company and bad default settings enablement. With a couple of settings enabled, there’s no chance really of anyone hijacking a meeting.
