I was gold for a couple of years, but the last time I earned it was in 2016. Since then, I have focused more on my travel on UA and only flew AA when I had to. In 2017, I only had 14,500 EQM's, 2018 11,000, and 2019 8,600, although I did burn quite a few Avios on AA award flights last year. Every year, AA would send me a buy-up offer that I ignored.

I just got an email that I have complimentary Gold for the rest of this year (I logged in an I see it expires 1/31/21). I didn't ask for this in any way. I had a one-way domestic award trip in May that I already cancelled and I still have another in December.

I guess it is smart of them to try to get more people to fly, although I am much more burning rather than earning on AA lately. However, I will hopefully have some additional business travel later in the year and I might do that on AA now instead of UA and take advantage of the DFW non-stops.
