My hard drive on my Dell Laptop went, and I had a replacement the next day. Unfortunately the replacement was also defective, so then sent a 2nd one that arrived the following day. Excellent service, and I made the 3 year warranty period by one month.

I would contact Gateway again and complain up the ladder. 5-6 weeks is totally unacceptable for a warranty replacement.
