As you mentioned, the Mainland USA-Hawaii redemptions have a pretty good value, but it has limited availability and as you mentioned, you would need to contact a sales office.
Due to the current situation, most ticket offices are not answering e-mails and phones as either they are closer or they are busy helping passengers who have visited the office in-person. However, if you travel a lot, you could simply stop by a TK airport sales counter to issue *A awards during your travels after the COVID-19 pandemic. At a sales office or at a ticketing counter, the process of booking an *A award is super-simple, give the routes and flight numbers ( check availability in advance ) and pay the taxes over there and your *A award is issued within 3-5 minutes.

If you currently are a member of another *A program and you have status, it's also not worth opening a M&S account.
