Miles are not transferrable but you can get awards tickets issued using YOUR miles for family and friends.

I did it once with Delta and for this Christmas with American. Both times so my friend HOlly can spend the holidays with her family (I figure at least with AA the miles will be used rather than lost.)

Every airline has different rules. You might
want to check with the customer care dept.
of your favourite airline and see what the rules are.
