There is another option for lie-flats on the transcon. Out of 7 daily flights PHL-LAX, normally 1 has an A332 in each direction. In the present hard times, it looks as occasionally been exchanged for the otherwise standard aircraft for this route, the normal A321, or even a B737.

For January 2021 the flight times with the A332 are PHL-LAX 15.50-18.49 and LAX-PHL 08.05-16.23.

The outbound does not fit well with BA flights ex LHR, but doing some innovative routing on the SOF-HNL route, AA has another A332 leaving DUB 10.40 arriving PHL 13.25, thus 2+ hours connection.

The inbound morning flight from LAX makes BA LHR connections easy, and is my personal Plan B, when I inventory is scarce on LAX-JFK. From HNL there are two red-eyes, one arriving 04.00 , the other 06.04, which gives ample time for a shower and breakfast and more before departure . I often take the afternoon flight from HNL to stay overnight at LAX, to avoid two consecutive night flights, as the lack of sleep on the red-eye from HNL will tempt you to more ore less sleep the way to PHL, with a possible risk of getting out of your normal sleeping pattern on the way home. But, of course, YMMV.
