I was always taught Neutral Unit Currency. Not that it matters.

If you look at a fare calc on a ticket, it might look like this:
RIO JJ X/SAO KL X/AMS Q15.00KL VCE M441.50KL X/AMS KL X/SAO Q15.00KL RIO M441.50NUC913.00END ROE1.000000PD XT30.78RN7.10VV11.36CJ6.22XA24.42IT6.43VT
It's used very extensively for proration.
