Looks like once the flight has been cancelled, the AE booking goes into some " unticketed" status, so you can no longer Cancel it online.

I have 3 bookings, 2 still have the cancel button, but the other, which is now cancelled YYZ-MIA flight, says unticketed and the cancel option is gone.
