Furthermore, the Penalty section on revenue fares have been updated to allow for no charges on change. The penalty section of award fare rule (on purchase page) did not similar language.
Folks, the info on AA's site might say there's a penalty to redeposit but I'd say call. YMMV.
DATAPOINT - I booked an award travel from California to New York in April 2019 for travel in July 2019. Ended up cancelling and had up to a year to reuse miles. As you may know, I can only rebook for same departure and arrival destinations. I really had no plans to go to NY anytime again last year but did not want to pay the $150 to redeposit the 25K miles. At least not yet. I called AA 3 weeks ago. Was told I had to use miles for a trip before the end of April 2020. I thought it was one year from date of travel booked but rep said it's one year from date of purchase. I got him to grant a waiver and I booked for a random trip to NY in late June.
Well a lot has changed in 3 weeks. I went online today 3/27/20, cancelled the NY trip for June 2020 and called AA to redeposit miles. Rep said it would cost $150. I ask for a waiver because of the situation in NY. She went to talk to a supervisor, came back about 2 or 3 mins later and said waiver approved. No $150 redeposit fee. Miles will be redeposited into my account and the $11.20 tax will be returned to my credit card.
