Many people who have posted tips here in the past have had their sources dry up as a result and are hesitant to post stuff. But lots of good information is still shared. And if you dig through it all, research, put in the work, talk to people, go to bars, etc you might find what you're looking for.
A few weeks ago I got a Hakushu 18 at Costco for below retail $265 after tax because the spirits buyer emailed me saying he has 6 bottles in his office and I was welcome to one if I wanted. I had spent some time chatting with him and expressing my interest in Japanese whisky. It took time, several months actually.
Just recently
james21_h posted that he was able to acquire Hibiki 21 at retail price from his bartender friend, who I'm sure he's spent many hours chatting with and supporting before that.
Starting to notice a pattern here?
But of course nobody wants to hear this stuff, they want to hear where it can be bought for retail price RIGHT NOW.
Well I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to tell me where I can buy a Rolex Daytona at this very second for retail price just because I asked nicely on the internet.
Please do excuse me but I would request you not make assumptions on my efforts, having traveled to over 40 individual shops here, and calling many more using my limited japanese to try and see if they had any in stock. That in addition to the dozens of stores i've called in Boston, New Haven and New York looking for the same. To say that someone isn't putting in the effort--simply untrue. My days here in Osaka and Tokyo have been entirely dedicated to running to various shops to look.
If you have any leads, I would appreciate it, but attached are even the stores i hit the last two days in Osaka and what my call list looked like for even 15 minutes the other night. I'm trying harddd.
