Amazon Rainforest - Day 1

After dinner I had some time to relax, some reading, one more Caipirinha, I am on vacation after all, and my first few laps of swimming in the Amazon river (yes - its safe to swim here)

Around 3 P.M. it was time to meet at the boat for the first tour - somehow the whole arrangement reminded me of my safaris in Africa - just with a boat instead of a Toyota Land Cruiser.

At first we went upriver, passing the biggest settlement in this area.

And later closer to the riverbank and again through some flooded forests - seeing lots of Birds, Butterflys and even a few monkeys along the way. (To be honest - I would have missed most of the monkeys, but our guide was really good at spotting them)

By the way - Piranhas are not nearly as dangerous as Hollywood makes you believe - this one we cought just 500 Meters from the upstream from where I was swimming earlier.

But to be honest - the animals are just a bonus - what really impressed me is the landscape.

Another small farm (the only one we saw on this trip aside from the settlement earlier)

And again - whole areas of Forrests completely flooded

And as all the flora is bigger here then everywhere else - of course they also have giant water lillies.

Met one other boat during our tour.

And left the forrest for the open water just in time for the impressive sunset.

When we arrived at the camp dinner was already waiting for us, Beansoup followed by a tasty fish-curry

They would have offered another boat trip after dinner to watch caimans - but I postponed this for the next evening.

Instead I tried to take some pictures of the beautiful sky - so far from every artificial light source you really had an amazing unobstructed view.

And after an interesting day back to my bungalow
