Calgary is both a hub for Air Canada and WestJet. WestJet partners with a number of skyteam airlines including KLM, Air France and Delta. Just now KLM has suspend all their flights into Canada expect the two WestJet hubs.
Good she was able to persuade the gate staff of the rules.
