An Ominous Letter on Route Cancelations

All IberiaPlus members received an email today from María Jesús López Solas, Iberia’s Client and Loyalty Director. Although it gives no firm details, in honest and almost emotional language, the letter mentions major reductions in service. She addresses us with the informal “tú,” implying we are all in this together.

A couple of highlights:

“Like all airlines in the world, we have almost nowhere to fly. Currently we are organizing the last of our long-haul flights, as well as organizing repatriation flights to countries where air travel is no longer permitted, after having obtained special permission for this. In the coming weeks we will maintain a very reduced operation, with a view to guaranteeing minimal connections to Spain.”

With landing restrictions (an Iberia flight was recently prevented from landing at Guayaquil by vehicles parked on the runway) and border controls, there is no reason to believe that Iberia could operate many/most of its international flights, even if it wanted to.

Paciencia!
