I have a few bookings made using points before the category changed took place and the CC free night certs were available. Does anyone know whether I can swap the certs for points online or do I have to call to make that switch? TIA.

Assuming the price in points hasn't changed you could just cancel your points booking and make a new one using the cert. If the price in points has changed (for example if you booked using 35K points but now the price is 40K points and you're trying to use a 35K certificate) I think technically you are not supposed to be able to use the certificate regardless, but I'm not sure if you might get a phone agent who was willing/able to go around that.
