I'm still being harassed by the Canadian collection company about once a week regarding a phantom $221 charge from a rental at LAS last July. I've contact Hertz via phone, email and social media (direct) to ask if the claim number the Canadian collectors are referencing is legit. I have not received a response from Hertz in more than a month other than they are "looking into it." So I called my insurance company - USAA - yesterday to explain what was going on. The agent said if it were a legit claim, Hertz has my insurance info on file and has every right to contact them (USAA) directly to collect their money If I had indeed damaged the car (which I did not). Suffice to say, Hertz has not contacted them. The agent also said that any collection agency would contact someone via mail, not phone or email.
So...I'm going with the Canadian company is a scam and I've now blocked their number.
