May be a bit of an exaggeration. DFW is well-positioned to continue forward as a hub for someone given the population of the metroplex and its geographic location. In the unlikely event AA failed, I could see DL trying to find a way to swoop in and snatch it up. It would fill in a major gap in their network. Probably the only gap in their domestic network.
Not to mention the fact they ran a hub at DFW for a few decades
