Havanna, Cuba

The first of two destinations I wanted to visit on this trip was the ancient Maya town of Tikal in Guatemala - but of course there are no direct flights from germany there. And of the options available Havanna looked like the nicest one to spend a few days there.

Woke up quite early in the morning - just in time for Breakfast. Nothing to special - looked a lot more impressive from a distance - until you get closer and realize the six different bowls of fruit are all Melons - but cut differently…

Wifi is of course also available in the hotel - you just have to by a voucher at a desk at the reception (1 CUC for one hour)

Plan for this day was a City Tour by Bus - so I walked two blocks to the Parque Central where the tours start - but was way too early for the first bus in the morning - so at least some more time to discover the area.

Even here in the city center its amazing how different the buildings look - from really impressive renovated ones…

… to rather neglected ones a few steps further.

I walked past the Capitol

Bought some water - quite a challenge compared to some city’s in Asia where you can find a 7/11 or comparable mini-market at almost every street corner - here even in the city center it was difficult to find a shop.

When I got back to the park it was just in Time for the first bus - the route took us to the north towards the coast and then on the coastal road ( El Malecaon ) towards the western part of Havanna.

Past a Football Stadium…

… and a few Hotels

The way back was through the city, past some residential areas.

Of course there were a few stops along the way - like the „Cemeterio Cristobal Colon“

And the next one - the vast „Plaza de la Revolution“ with the impressive „Jose Marti Memorial“

View from the foot of the memorial (you could also visit the top)

Some of the nice cars Havanna is famous for.

Ist natürlich auch ein Fixpunkt für viele Touristenrundfahrten im Oldtimer - dementsprechend sind davon hier auch eine schön restaurierte Exemplare zu sehen.

From there I took the next Bus back to Parque Central - this one with a not working air condition - but there is of course also a solution for this…

Time for something to eat - Tripadvisor recommended „San Juan Bar & Grill“ in that area - and even if it was on the other side of the place as the map showed - I found it.

I am here on my Caribbean Vacation - so why not a Mojito for Lunch

Followed by Chicken Fajitas with Rice and Beans, nothing fancy but really tasty!

From there a view steps to the west towards the bay and the harbour.

Did I already mention I encountered some queues here in Havanna?

Back at the hotel…

… a view laps in the pool and some reading…

… and its time for Lunch. First wanted to take some night pictures of the „Castillo de San Salvador de la Punta“ right at the water - but as there were to few lights that didn’t work out as planned. So lets see what’s available for lunch.

This was my second trip to Havanna - the first one was four years earlier - looks like there a more small restaurants or Cafes here now.

After walking through some alleys I decided to visit „La Farmacia“ - the menus looked similar at most places - but this was the busiest one…

First Course: Fries - prepared very good - but I misread the Spanish menu and accidentally ordered the sweet potato fries, I am really not a picky eater - but to be honest I am always dissapointed by everything with sweet potatoes…

But then came the main course - Lobster Thermidor! Amazing sauce - and even if the lobster was a few moments to long on the grill still tasty!
