Does this make sense? Do I have to just trust that if I cal 6 months from now with the original PNR that they will find the recorded credit? This seems odd to me

You should be able to call and get the record locator and ticket number to keep for your records. And they can verify you have that much in credit for a future flight. Before you call though try sending a DM to [MENTION=450792]AmericanAir[/MENTION] on twitter first.
