One other thought, if you guaranteed the reservation to the card you're planning on cancelling, you're most likely still okay. To be safe you could call in and update the card used to guarantee your reservation.

Question... so I booked for March 30-April 1 as my dates, and last day to cancel card is April 3rd (and I believe the days expire that day too).
Now the problem is... coronavirus :-/
Will they let me extend the date based on coronavirus?
(When I spoke to the Amex rep about cancelling my card, he said to use my free nights before I actually cancel the card. He said even though I reserved the day, if I cancel the card, I lose the reservation). But either way, the free nights are set to expire on April 2nd.

More details:
I was originally going to stay in Mexico here in Guadalajara where I work and go to Puerto Vallarta for a 3 day vacation before heading back to San Diego...
but I'm afraid they'll close the borders to the US possibly... or cancel flights... either way I want to get back to San Diego because my dad is a bit older and lives there alone and figured since everything here is shut down, I might as well head back, so I don't get stuck in Mexico and can't help him out.
So I wanted to head back as soon as I could, also to lower risk of being contagious (still not too many cases in Mexico... for now... so it seems like a lower risk to fly from Guadalajara to Tijuana and cross there to San Diego).
Does it look like I'll lose those days? Wondering if there's a way I can postpone the reservation based on what's going on... even if I'm going to cancel my Marriott Bonvoy card which gave me the nights.. .and the nights are going to expire too.
