I can't exactly say I'm a regular in HK, having now transited 5x since December 2019, but not once have I been asked anything at all by immigration.

I'm not a British citizen, but a SA national with UK permanent residence. My visits which have been of varying length.. 12 hours to 5 days, and I have had no questions at all.
