In your OP, you said that you simply moved and the FA then approached you. Here you suggest that you asked the FA and she refused.

If you ask first, the FA can then determine whether there is an issue on the flight which requires her to ask the Captain or not. In your case, depending on which is correct, it sounds as though you took the issue into your own hands and then it was too late.
