Ha, yes exactly the same happened to me as well, but at SYD. Boarding for BA16, the BP came out of the bottom slot of the machine (always a good sign) and the conversation went something like this:

Gate Agent: You've got a gate call, can you just wait a few moments.
Me: No problems ("Wayhey, here comes an Op-Up" I was thinking (I was in WT, so pretty desperate even for WT+).
Gate Agent: Now, have you got a British passport?
Me: Yes
Gate Agent: Thank you sir, that is all
Me: Oh, thought you were going to offer me a seat a little further forward! (Said with a cheeky smirk).
Gate Agent: Er, no.
Me: Is it busy tonight? (Starting to plead now)
Gate Agent: Fairly
Me: (Pause) Oh.
Gate Agent: Have a good flight.

My shoulders sunk and I tootled off down the jetway to enjoy my next 21 hours in WT (bulkhead seat at least).
