I suspect most who have a job that can be performed remotely over the internet can afford to pay for their internet service (Netflix in the US has 61 million subscribers). There may be cases of lower income jobs that for some reason could now be shifted home (call center? medical transcription?) should perhaps have their costs covered by the employer.
Yes, most of the people on this board have a job that allows them pay for high speed internet, but that doesn't translate to the entire population. If this panic continues, many of us might not have these jobs in the future, while their children will need the internet to receive an education. My job would require high speed internet to be able to work from home, for a limited number of hours because not everything could be done from home. I'm not looking forward to loose one household income because one bread winner works in the restaurant industry, while reducing the other income to 50%, and having to buy high speed internet on top of it (currently don't need it, and don't watch TV). At what point do the financial impacts of the shut-downs become more severe than the actual impact of the virus?
