We ended up having to change the flight in question from 3/14/20 to 10/30/20; AA called us back within about 55 minutes and handled the matter efficiently. No change fee, and AA will provide an evoucher good for one year from date of issue for the difference in fare. The new fare is substantially lower than the fare paid. It was helpful that we had a substitute date in mind.
