I'll be calling AA later today, but it'll be interesting to see how strict they are with rebookingn- perhaps they'll let me do HAM-HEL-LHR on a different day, which would appear to get round the issue.

How would that get round the issue? You can’t enter the US if you’ve been to Schengen in the past 14 days.
